A new subduction zone forming off the coast of Portugal heralds the beginning of a cycle that will see the Atlantic Ocean close, as continental Europe moves closer to America. Published in Geology, new research led by Monash University geologists has detected the first evidence that a passive margin in the Atlantic Ocean is becoming active. Subduction zones, such as the one beginning near Iberia, are areas where one of the tectonic plates that cover Earth’s surface dives beneath another plate into the mantle — the layer just below the crust. Lead author Dr João Duarte, from the School of Geosciences said the team mapped the ocean floor and found it was beginning to fracture, indicating tectonic activity around the apparently passive South West Iberia plate margin. “What we have detected is the very beginnings of an active margin — it’s like an embryonic subduction zone,” Dr Duarte said. “Significant earthquake activity, including the 1755 quake which devastated Lisbon, indicated that there might be convergent tectonic movement in the area. For the first time, we have been able to provide not only evidences that this is indeed the case, but also a consistent driving mechanism.” The incipient subduction in the Iberian zone could signal the start of a new phase of the Wilson Cycle — where plate movements break up supercontinents, like Pangaea, and open oceans, stabilize and then form new subduction zones which close the oceans and bring the scattered continents back together. This break-up and reformation of supercontinents has happened at least three times, over more than four billion years, on Earth. The Iberian subduction will gradually pull Iberia towards the United States over approximately 220 million years. The findings provide a unique opportunity to observe a passive margin becoming active — a process that will take around 20 million years. Even at this early phase the site will yield data that is crucial to refining the geodynamic models. “Understanding these processes will certainly provide new insights on how subduction zones may have initiated in the past and how oceans start to close,” Dr. Duarte said. –Daily Science

The sensation of an opposition is often described in astrology as feeling like being pulled in two directions. Planets in opposition also mirror each other in some way. The Moon reflects the light of the Sun, for instance, mimicking it in a less bright, more-tangible way. Something like that seems to be afoot with this week’s opposition between Jupiter and the Galactic Center — though it may be more like a fun-house mirror.

With both Jupiter and the GC, the energy is working on a scale that might feel overwhelming or incomprehensible. You might be faced with too many options on the one hand, and an inability to see all the way to the edges of what you’re looking at on the other. Both are something so big and widespread, you can’t quite wrap your brain around it.

Jupiter in Gemini represents the more worldly manifestation of this, illustrated by the public’s response to the news that the NSA is collecting an unprecedented amount of phone and Internet data about everyone. How many people in your Facebook news feed are actually talking about it, passionately demanding accountability? Heck, how many people do you know who have even registered the news enough to feel fear or paranoia about their privacy?

As Eric has mentioned before on Planet Waves, there is a lesson from A Course in Miracles that says there are no private thoughts. The NSA would seem to agree, though they’ve twisted the concept. Most people, however, are not on that wavelength, and are still mighty sensitive about the idea of their sexting, email rants and hot phone conversations being common knowledge. Culturally, we are far from ‘okay’ with being known fully.

That idea from ACIM brings us back to the Galactic Center, hanging out in late Sagittarius and currently opposed by Jupiter. The GC acts like our cosmic homing signal; it’s where our Milky Way galaxy essentially spawned itself, and where new stars and various radio waves are still being generated. Astrologically, it represents ‘source’, ‘spirit’ and the sense of universal connection underlying everything.
We can’t see its edges. We can’t see its actual center (there’s too much space dust in the way) and can barely conceive of the distances involved. But if we have the science right, then everything we know on this planet has its long-distant origins in the GC — and long before its discovery, whole branches of spiritual thought had evolved around this idea of universal interconnectedness. For some, that idea is incomprehensible.

The NSA’s data mining may also feel too big to comprehend, making it hard to react to emotionally. You may be struggling to make visceral contact with this event, yet the NSA is made up of a bunch of people, just like you. They are using the Internet on computers, just like you. They follow the instructions of their bosses (well, one didn’t), just like you. Even their bosses are just people, just like you.
So what sets you apart from someone who thinks it’s okay to spy on millions of regular people going about their regular day? Are you willing to claim that, and recognize it in others? Can you see yourself more clearly in the mirror of the Galactic Core or in Jupiter in Gemini? You may find clarity, comprehension or perspective between the two of them — and then you can use it.

Astrological Forecast

Here we are in June already and the year is half over. Has time ceased to exist? The Sun is in the sign of Gemini right now which is an air sign and rules wind. It also rules communication of all kinds. Have any of you had computer problems lately, like the last three weeks or so, or was it just me? This is why my article is late. I finally got my computer fixed after many challenges.
I am so grateful to be living in the Pacific Northwest. It is so beautiful here and so far we have missed the major Earth changes. The Earth is definitely in a shift. I have never seen so many events all over the world occurring simultaneously. There has been major flooding in the past month in several places in the world including Norway, many countries in Europe, China, India, the central part of the United States, Florida, Alaska, and probably other places that I am not aware of. Could this be caused by Planet X next to our sun? Many people have taken pictures of this object, and the prophecy is it will cause lots of flooding on Earth.
Cliff High made a prediction from his web bots that before the first week in June there would be a major global coastal event. I would say we have had a major global event with lots of water. Before the flooding happened it said a bridge would go down in the Pacific Northwest. That happened last month and made a mess of I-5. He also said there would be major computer glitches. I can attest to that event. And the flooding definitely happened all over the world.
The planet Jupiter was right over Moore, Oklahoma when the tornado went through that area causing a lot of damage. The next tornado on Friday had winds that were 300 miles an hour and the storm was 2 ½ miles wide. That was a huge storm. I was told years ago that when we went through a magnetic pole shift (which is happening now) the winds would be up to 300 miles an hour. This magnetic shift started way back in 1998. We are now in the finale.
The magnetic energy from the planets really activate a lot of events, along with the energy from the Sun that is making the core of the Earth heat up. Then there are gamma ray bursts that are affecting our bodies, and the body of Mother Earth. The magnetic north pole is moving and the people who can’t deal with this energy have been losing it lately. Then there is H.A.A.R.P. stirring up everything.  I also think the Photon Belt is a major event with all that Photon energy coming to Earth. This month Jupiter will be moving into the water sign Cancer. Venus and Mercury are already there and this is why a storm is coming into Florida and up the East Coast right now. Jupiter is a large planet which means there will be many large storms and flooding this upcoming year. The weather forecasters say there will be a lot of Hurricanes this year and I believe them because Jupiter will be over the East Coast this year and it will be making a 90 degree angle to Uranus and Pluto which will activate the cardinal cross. Jupiter will be activating a lot of water energy. Pluto is in an earth sign which rules earthquakes and Uranus is in Aries which is a fire sign and activates fires, volcanic eruptions, and violence.
When Mars moved into Gemini a few days ago the fires just north of Los Angeles were activated. Now Mars is ready to move across the plains, probably activating fires, violence, or more storms as it crosses the area  from the Cascade Mountains to the Mississippi River. Mars will be in that area until July 14, 2013.
Incidentally, on April 21-22 of 2014 there will be a perfect cardinal cross in the heavens with Uranus on 13 Aries, Jupiter 13 Cancer (over Washington D.C.), Mars 13 Libra, and Pluto 13 Capricorn. As we move into the middle of the year, some very interesting changes are beginning to become visible as considerable amounts of light and light frequencies are now impacting the earth and you. These transitionary light frequencies are altering the instability and moving us from a third dimensional, past-future, resistant, conditional and controlled society that is very much in reaction, to a society that will unfold very much in balance, co-operation and co-creation. One piece that I have been speaking about for many years that is about to become obvious concerns the many strata of consciousness that we are about to step into. These strata are all about YOU… your stratum, your layers of consciousness, your soul path, your growth, and your own evolution in this transition. Remember, while everyone is going home, and everyone will wind up on a fifth dimensional stepping stone, not all will accelerate at the same pace, or occupy the same stratum.

One stratum that is unfolding concerns the middle East, where power struggles are beginning to accelerate. Another concerns world economics, and yet another has to do with the weather, which is continuing to worsen in many areas of the world, as well as in the US. In the coming months, two things will occur...

Commitment vs. Conformity: The Social Sacrifice of Staying the Course

It has been my experience that, in the quest to remain true to my nature and committed to serving the mission of Oneness Consciousness, there has always been, and continues to be, a seemingly necessary sacrifice of social conformity to the “norm”.
Throughout history, those who have made the choice to “go public” with their assertions to the cause of Oneness, have become personal, professional and social targets. From interpersonal relationships to wide-spread media campaigns – those who plant their feet on the soil of Oneness Consciousness appear invariably to find themselves socially challenged, ostracized, ridiculed, shunned and marginalized.
In smaller personal and professional circles, this often translates into compromised relationships with others who are steeped in the “illusion program”. Those who walk and talk the path of Oneness Consciousness are assigned the label of persona non grata. And, in extreme cases, those who manage to gain wide degrees of public exposure – amassing a “following” (if you will) – often find themselves threatened, bullied, intimidated and/or killed.
When viewed historically, we have no shortage of examples. From prophets to politicians, entertainers to writers and social activists, we see the same pattern over and over again and the message is loud and clear. Buck the “system” and you pay the price. The translation of this dynamic is simple and to the point. Either conform to the Illusion Program or find yourself excluded, shunned or dead.
Because humans are social beings, we have a powerful need for affiliation. And of course, this makes perfect sense. After all, we are, in reality, One. Therefore, in our journey through the outer illusion of separatism, it’s natural to feel alone so we seek out the company and validation of others as a reflection of our self-worth. But when viewed with our inner sense, we come to realize that we are never truly alone, as we are inseparable parts of the grander whole – Oneness Consciousness.

The question is: are we willing and able to make the social sacrifices to remain true to this cause? Or, will we continually compromise the authenticity of our hearts to appease and acquiesce to the normative demands of the status quo? I’ve come to the conclusion that – at least up to this point – remaining committed to the cause of Oneness and conforming to social norms and expectations are in diametrical opposition to one another.

As the new, enlightened and more expansive Oneness Consciousness manifests, the clash between the old paradigm of competitiveness, ego and  social exclusivity is unavoidable but necessary for change. These perceived conflicts should not be cause for undue concern as they are vital catalysts that activate our progress forward.

In my work as a university educator, I have always remained committed to teaching my courses from the standpoint of Oneness Consciousness. While not an explicit part of my lectures, my approach, conduct and application has been to highlight the many institutionalized, social barriers to unity.

Over the years, I’ve consistently received exemplary evaluations from my students and have been honored by student-nominated teaching awards. However, the way that I am regarded by my colleagues is quite a different story. Despite my effectiveness as a teacher, I find myself an outcaste – unworthy of inclusion, let alone direct eye contact, when passing co-workers in the hallways.

Had I only been concerned with my own personal achievements and climbing the corporate ladder of academic “success,” I would have changed my ways years ago. I would have reined myself in, toned myself down, and curled into a fetal position in the hopes of not drawing undue attention to myself as one dedicated to the unity of the planet and her inhabitants.

We all must arrive at this difficult decision eventually. Will it hurt? Yes. Will it feel uncomfortable and frightening to “walk the walk” in the face of social opposition? Most definitely.

But ultimately, we’re faced with the choice of either betraying our hearts by “going along to get along” or drumming up the courage to be authentic, genuine and sincere representations of our personal truths – and letting the social chips fall where they may.

In the words of Marieanne Williamson:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

“We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.

“There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do.

“We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Solar activity has been very low since the M-Class flare on Wednesday morning. Sunspot 1762 continues to make its way towards the southwest limb. Sunspot 1765 located in the northern hemisphere continues to evolve and may become the sunspot to watch heading into the weekend. There will remain a chance for at least C-Class solar flares.

5-30-13: Coronal Hole Facing Earth

A large Coronal Hole is currently rotating into an almost perfect geoeffective position. A high speed solar wind stream flowing from this hole should reach Earth by May 31 or June 1. Coronal Holes represent an area where open magnetic field lines are present and show up as dark areas due to the cooler temperature difference and plasma density compared to its surroundings. Higher Speed solar wind streams are known to flow from these areas.
Solar activity is back to very low levels on Thursday morning. There is currently little chance for strong solar flares. All visible sunspots remain small and magnetically simple. A coronal mass ejection (CME) was seen this morning off the east limb, but was directed away from Earth.
